Grauert Causeway Exhibit - March 2023
Walter Thomson, a professional photographer who has lived in Weehawken for nine years, first discovered the Grauert Stairs (also known as the Grauert Causeway) in 2019, while taking a photo walk. Since then, he became increasingly fascinated by the abandoned stairway (which has been closed to the public for over 60 years) and continued taking photographs from above at Hamilton Plaza during the various seasons. Last spring, he gained access to the stairs in order to document them and their current surroundings from different perspectives. The Weehawken Historical Commission is pleased to present his photo documentary, along with historical photographs from our collection of the stairs and their history, on view at the library through the month of March.
