Description
Colored photo postcard of elevator for raising wagons up the Palisades to Weehawken Street in West Hoboken (now 19th Street, Union City). The elevator was built in 1874 by John H. Bonn's railroad company. Cars were 20 feet wide, 40 feet long and capable of carrying a load of 50,000 lbs in one minute by means of a 300-horsepower electric motor.
