Black and white photo postcard of the altar of the original St. Lawrence Church (built in 1887). Rev. J.J. Preston, Pastor Specially designed and executed in Scagliola by Daprato Statuary Company Chicago-New York According to Weehawken Historical Commission member Nancy Boldt... "According to a book printed in 1987 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of St. Lawrence Church, Reverend John J. Preson was named to succeed Father Brothers on November 8, 1907. During his time as Pastor, he added three new altars. Father Preston was transferred to St. Aloysius Parish, Newark after six years so this photo was taken sometime during this period between 1907 and 1913."
