Hudson Co. Boulevard, Weehawken NJ

Subject

WHC88040

Description

Undivided black and white photo postcard view of Hudson County Boulevard, looking south onto a much narrower Park Avenue (what we call Boulevard East today). Visible far left is the Baldwin Hose Co. No. 1 and a series of row houses called Paul's Row. The buildings on the right side of Park Avenue are actually on the triangle of land between Park or the Boulevard and Willow Avenue. The narrowest part of that strip housed a hotel and restaurant called Mechler's Point. According to Chief Edward Kirk and Weehawken historian" Mechlers Point Hotel, a classy spot, with its wide enclosed veranda facing Park Ave, where the swells of the day prominading up from Hoboken and other places would stop to enjoy some of Mechlers good Beer."
