Description

Copy of a photograph kindly provided by Paula Elliott, the sole grandchild of Weehawken resident William Scott Watson, who was born in New York in 1872 and moved with his parents to Weehawken in 1878. The family resided at 5 Sunnyside Avenue and later moved to Gregory Avenue before leaving for Ridgefield. Ms. Elliott writes that the original sepia toned photo is mounted on cardboard and "shows my grandfather and 8 other young men (he was 23) wearing football uniforms(?) - one of which has Gregory across the front. The photo also shows the Manager (with bowler hat) and my grandfather's 7 year old brother as Mascot, holding an oddly shaped object which must be the football. On the back of the picture are all the names of the young men; Top Row: Bob Mayer, Wm Watson, Doc Bress?, James Higgins, Chas. Mayer. Bottom Row: Frank Robb, Wm Gardner, Andy Jameson?, E. Moran, Fred Walker, Ray Watson, Mascot Photo by (Red) Eddy Baker. Also listed are the names of several players who were not present for the photo. Those are William Read, Hadley Bessey, James Timmo?, James Briggs, John Riley, W. Caukle and Joe Mitchel.
