This black and white photo shows US Marines on the Pacific Island of Iwo Jima during World War II with a little piece of Weehawken in the Pacific Theater. According to Time Machine user Pat Keegan, the Marine on the left is her uncle, Weehawken native son Charlie Shortt. Pat also informs us that the photo was taken by famed photographer Joe Rosenthal, who shot the iconic flag raising photo on Iwo Jima.
