NEW YORK(NY25) NEW YORK MAR.24-END OF AN ERA APPROACHING- Its decks loaded with last day commuters from New Jersey, the New York Central's ferryboat Weehawken heads into its Hudson River slip at 42nd Street today. Looking at the approaching ferry is breidgeman Daniel Jaeger who has been on the job for 14 years. Service, started in 1829 by a company using paddlewheel boars and taken over by the New York Central (railway) in 1885, ends tonight. Central officials said that huge losses in running the ferries forced them to close down the service. The 5,000 commuters using it daily will have to find other means of transportation.
