Description

An engraving of the Duelling Ground at Weehawken as it appeared in 1804. The artist was "S Hollyer" and there is a copyright date of 1910 in the lower left corner. Born in England, Samuel Hollyer (1826-1919) studied engraving techniques under Edward and William Finden. He first came to the United States in 1851 and was commissioned by various New York City publishers. He settled permanently in New York in 1861 and for more than the following fifty years Hollyer created many fine engravings mezzotints and etchings.
