Description

A set of five matchbook covers from Mike's Tavern, located at 1734 Willow Avenue. These matchbooks feature scenes of nature and children. M.F. Sitarski was the proprietor of this "always friendly" establishment, offering "Wines - Liquors - Beers" and "FINE FOOD." Michael Sitarski was born in Poland in 1898, and worked first as a longshoreman on the docks. According to the 1940 census, he was working and living over his tavern, with wife, Mary, brother Stanley, and children, John and Catherine.
